What this site is

Independent consumer research about hearing devices sold to the public. Nothing here is a professional medical opinion, and reading it does not create a clinician–patient relationship.

We do not diagnose

We cannot tell you what is causing your hearing difficulty, how severe it is, or which device suits your ears. Only a hearing evaluation can do that. If you describe symptoms to us, we will not recommend a product in response.

Do not delay care

Never delay seeking professional advice because of something you read here. Hearing changes can have treatable medical causes, and some — such as sudden hearing loss — need prompt attention.

Over-the-counter devices have limits

OTC hearing aids are intended for adults 18 and over with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss. They are not appropriate for children, for severe or profound hearing loss, or where a medical cause may be present. No over-the-counter product is appropriate for everyone.

Product claims

Where we describe what a product does, we are reporting the seller's claims unless we state otherwise. See our review methodology for how claims are labelled.
