Which of these features actually matters?

For a self-fitted device, the ranking is not what marketing suggests:

  1. Ear tip fit — determines comfort, feedback and how much low-frequency sound you actually receive.
  2. Return window — the only reliable way to find out whether the device suits you.
  3. Volume control usability — a control you cannot operate reliably makes the device unusable in real life.
  4. Rechargeability — genuinely convenient, but a comfort feature rather than a hearing one.
  5. Marketing terms like "smart" or "advanced" — meaningless without published specifications.
